BDN BUZZ

Q & A:

Host Kandace

Krueger

Former Miss USA and co-host of the Best Docs Network sat down with us to talk about her experience as a reporter, her love for sports, being a working mom, and hosting the show.
BDN: What do you find the most satisfying about being a part of the Best Docs Network?
KANDACE: Hearing the patients’ stories has by far been the most rewarding part of working with the Best Docs Network. I love seeing how our Doctors are changing people’ s lives, and in many cases, saving people’ s lives. I also enjoy getting to know more about our doctors and how they came to love medicine and what drives them to do the amazing work that they do.
BDN: What is your secret to staying healthy being a working mother of four, three of which are triplets?
KANDACE: I’ ve learned that although it’ s not necessarily natural, it’ s important to make time for myself. I work hard to get to the gym at least three times a week and I get regular massages. When I feel good, I’ m a better mom for my kids.
BDN: What influenced you the most to become such a big sports fan, a trait many people may find surprising?
KANDACE: Believe it or not, I was sort of a tomboy growing up. I loved going fishing with my dad and would spend hours organizing all of his fishing lures and
“ Believe it or not, I was sort of a tomboy growing up.” worms. I wanted to do everything that my dad was doing, and he loved football( especially the Cowboys). So I would sit with him on the weekends and watch football for hours. I guess after a while, I developed a love for it. I went on to cheer in middle school and high school which fostered my love of sports. Then I went to college at Texas A & M and if you’ ve ever been to an Aggie football game at Kyle Field, then you understand. Let’ s just say I scheduled my classes so I’ d be sure to graduate in the Spring to get one more season of Aggie Football in.
BDN: What were some of your experiences as a sideline reporter?
KANDACE: My degree from Texas A & M is in Journalism and it was always my dream to be a sideline reporter on Monday night football. Becoming a mom changed all of that but I did have the opportunity to do lots of fun sideline reporting before being
blessed with kids. During my Miss USA reign I worked for the PBR( Professional Bull Riders) where I would interview the riders after their ride. Then I went on to work for Mark Cuban’ s high definition network( HD-Net) where I covered everything from horse racing to Nascar and Major League Soccer. I loved every minute of it.
BDN: What is it like working with Jim Knox?
KANDACE: Working with Jim has been a great experience. Being a big sports fan myself, I’ ve always admired his talent and work. To now be working alongside him is a bit surreal. He is always a lot of fun to work with and I’ m honored to be on the same team as him. Now I just need to get him to start rooting for my Aggies!
