Services Berry Street delivers a high quality continuum of education programs S1: Ensure each child and young person in Berry Street Out of Home Care is engaged in and supported to achieve in education. S2: Develop and deliver curriculum focussed on purposeful, measurable, academic achievement with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy. S3: Strengthen our capacity to provide young people with pathways to education, training and employment. S4: Build a school culture that fosters positive relationships and clear and consistent academic and behavioural expectations. S5: Ensure Berry Street’s school and vocational programs are consistent with legislation and compliant with the requirements of state and national regulatory bodies. Leadership and advocacy Berry Street contributes to a fairer and more inclusive education ystems L1: Advocate for: » the education system to better meet the needs of disadvantaged children, young people and communities » the provision of flexible options that meet the needs of groups at the highest risk of disengagement. L2: Ensure strong governance arrangements for Berry Street’s school and training operations. People Berry Street builds a skilled and competent education workforce committed to education and training best practice and a trauma- informed, therapeutic approach P1: Develop and implement a recruitment strategy focused on the selection of education staff with suitable qualifications and a commitment to innovation and rigour. P2: Establish a professional development program that develops the skills of our staff to deliver the Berry Street Model of Education in the context of contemporary education policy and practice. P3: Increase the focus on feedback and reflection through staff supervision, team meetings and coaching. P4: Build the capacity of our education staff for educational leadership. Knowledge Berry Street generates, shares and uses knowledge, evidence and innovation to enhance educational and training service responses K1: Further develop, and share across the education sector, the Berry Street Model of Education by: » aligning our education programs with contemporary research and best practice » developing and implementing an approach to the measurement of student learning » documenting and evaluating the outcomes and progress of Berry Street Education programs. K2: Establish a Community of Practice with other flexible learning providers and programs. K3: Develop a strategy for assisting mainstream schools to better cater for students who have experienced the trauma of abuse, neglect or family violence. K4: In partnership with the ChildTrauma Academy, develop and pilot resources for school settings based on the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT). Resources Berry Street has the right resources and partnerships to do its education and training work R1: Establish and/or strengthen partnerships with schools and other education and training programs at the local, state and national levels. R2: Ensure the sustainability of Berry Street school-based programs. R3: Ensure Berry Street’s education and training sites are compliant with regulations and incorporated into the organisation’s broader Infrastructure Plan to ensure the capacity to meet the future needs of students.
