ixie did have wonderful show
biz moments in the post burlesque apocalyptic time. Her birthday party show in 2011, for example, was an amazing event and celebration. At the Royale Hotel, fans,
friends and family paid tribute to
Dixie and pool partied until the wee
morning hours. Dixie gave a beautiful speech, and legends like Tempest Storm, Tiffany Carter, Kitten
Natividad, Shannon D’oah, Satans
Angel, and many others joined the
celebration. Producers Luke Littell
and Frederic Apcar repeated the
event in 2012, for what was a similar heartwarming show, where Dixie
held court as a parade of burlesque
dancers like Kitten de Ville, Kitten
on the Keys, myself, and many others took to the stage on the rooftop
of Binion’s Horseshoe making burlesque magic under the Las Vegas
sky.
This year, only days before her
death, Dixie was excited about and
planned on attending the Las Vegas Dixie Evans Week tribute show.
She was thrilled about Dixie Evans
Week. Dixie was so excited that an
entire week was being dedicated to
her, a week that involved over 30
shows literally around the world.
And though she did not live long
enough to experience the week, she
did receive many letters and cards
from participating producers and
performers, all who shared details
of their events and their love for Dixie. This brought her great joy. Making sure Dixie knew the community
still loved and supported her and
was thankful and aware of all the
hard work she had done over the
years to keep burlesque alive was
one of our major goals in creating
Dixie Evans Week.
