in their home garage , then transitioned to a large barn that Dylan built with the help of Chris Walsh , owner of Walsh Construction in Lanesborough . Dylan designed the pole barn and did all the electrical work ; Chris did the excavation , poured the concrete , and built the barn . Dylan is proud to have played a part in creating a space every bit as lofty as the ambitions that he and Steph share for the company ’ s future .
As life partners and business partners , Dylan and Steph operate with a cooperative division of labor . Steph oversees the business aspect — working with clients on their vision , sourcing vans , and handling paperwork . Dylan remodels the vans from start to finish , finding ample inspiration from his natural surroundings in the heart of the Cheshire forests . “ The best thing about working from our home workshop and owning our own business is that we get to decide when we want to take a break and go for a ride ,” says Dylan . “ We ’ ve been able to achieve a better work-life balance than we ever thought possible and really take advantage of our free time .”
From the intricate electrical wiring to the precise construction and positioning of the cabinetry , every element of their vans is positioned to maximize versatility and enjoyment . The three-month conversion process begins with a bare-shell van , which is soundproofed and insulated with 3M synthetic insulation . Electrical wiring is then run throughout the van , connected to lithium-ion batteries that power the appliances . Afterwards , the cabinetry , wood paneling , and floating floors are installed . The final touches include painting and sealing the surfaces , ensuring harmonious , aesthetic functionality .
Although the basic layout retains structural similarity from project to project , Dylan and Steph adapt to the diverse needs of their clientele . For instance , they offer several varieties of in-van toilets — cassette , dry flush , and composting — as well as custom bike racks , TV mounts , and 12-volt ovens . The sleeping area is designed with a permanent bed structure , with ample space underneath for storage . They chose RAM ProMaster vans because of thier width and squared walls , which allow for maximum storage space and the use of standard RV queen-sized beds . “ It ’ s a great van with a lot of potential for
