Lockhart’ s tenure at the Boston Pops has been defined by his ability to bridge musical genres and bring orchestral music to a broader audience. Throughout the season, he will also conduct several standout performances, including the beloved John Williams’ Film Night on August 9 and a concert featuring Broadway stars Sutton Foster and Kelli O’ Hara on July 18. The season will also feature a retrospective of Lockhart’ s tenure, incorporating archival footage and tributes from artists he has worked with over the years.
A Season of Musical Exploration
Beyond its marquee performances, Tanglewood remains dedicated to fostering emerging talent through its Tanglewood Music Center( TMC) programs. The Festival of Contemporary Music, curated this year by celebrated contemporary composer Gabriela Ortiz from July 24-28, will showcase new compositions alongside works by underrepresented composers. In addition to presenting her own music, Ortiz is curating a lineup of composers whose works she believes are timely and significant, amplifying the diversity of voices in Tanglewood’ s contemporary music programming. As the 2025 season unfolds, Tanglewood reaffirms its standing as a perennial beacon of musical excellence and artistic exploration. Whether through the soaring grandeur of Tosca or L’ Enfant et les Sortilèges, the rhythmic vibrancy of contemporary compositions, or the timeless charm of folk and rock legends, this season offers something for every listener. Great musical programming demands balance, and Tanglewood is clearly dedicated to honoring the past, embracing the present, and looking forward to the future. n
