THIS IS MY MOST FAVORITE time of year . Isn ’ t it for everyone ? It ’ s what makes the Berkshires that much more special — the warm days and cool nights , the outdoor activities , the world-class performances , the restaurants , the shopping , the people .
Best of all , the Berkshires are back . Within a few miles ’ radius of where I live in West Stockbridge , I attended two special events just the other day : the opening of Enchanted : A History of Fantasy Illustration at the Norman Rockwell Museum , and the opening of the indoor and outdoor exhibitions at the Berkshire Botanical Garden . As I drove home all aglow from viewing the exhibitions and seeing people I hadn ’ t seen in a long while , I realized that my own little town also was abuzz : people dining at Rouge , live music streaming from The Foundry , couples strolling and window shopping , kids playing ball in their front yard , a guy on a park bench strumming on his guitar , birds giving their last calls of the day . All was good . All is good .
This issue gives a wonderful sampling of all this — from picnics to public gardens , from attending plays to antiquing and hiking a well-worn trail . It ’ s all here , in these pages and in the Berkshires .
