NOTED PHYSICIAN, WRITER, AND THOUGHT LEADER DR. EZEKIEL J. EMANUEL BRINGS HIS UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE TO THE BERKSHIRES
SOME OF THE COUNTRY’ S leading writers, artists, and scholars will converge in Lenox for the inaugural field, a new festival to be held from October 23 to 25 that will be devoted to ideas, conversation, learning, and discovery.
Among the guests is Ezekiel J. Emanuel, M. D., Ph. D., an oncologist, bioethicist, author, and one of the country’ s most prominent voices on health policy. Dr. Emanuel is Vice Provost for Global Initiatives and the Diane v. S. Levy and
Robert M. Levy University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, with appointments in medical ethics and health policy at the Perelman School of Medicine and health care management at the Wharton School. He previously served as the founding chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health and, from 2009 to 2011, as a special advisor on health policy in the Obama administration, where he played a role in the development of the Affordable Care Act. His career has placed him at an unusual intersection of clinical medicine, ethics, government, academia, public policy, and media.
Dr. Joshua Sherman, publisher of Berkshire Magazine, who is passionate about the intersection of media and medicine, recently asked Dr. Emanuel about the consequences of misinformation— and how providers today can rebuild trust with patients.
