OUR CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS are an integral part of the Berkshires. Just take a look at“ On the Town” on pages 110 – 111. The locations where the photos were taken— Shakespeare & Company, Barrington Stage Company, and Hancock Shaker Village— are not only spaces to explore, to learn, and to enjoy, they also provide places where the community gathers.

At Shakespeare & Company, the fourth annual WIT Literary Festival presented leading authors exploring timely topics and relevant questions. One of those discussions spurred us to publish the article“ Giving Back Locally”( page 100).
You will see Hancock Shaker Village is well-represented in this issue. It was the location for this year’ s Berkshire 25 reception and where The Testament of Ann Lee was filmed, starring Amanda Seyfried( page 18). You’ ll also see Hancock Shaker Village in our Wedding Guide, starting on page 45, as well as the Festival of Trees that will be happening there this year( page 12). What makes it enjoyable to work with and write about our cultural institutions are the individuals who work there. People who go that extra mile include Michael Crotty, Director of Engagement and Communications at Hancock Shaker Village, pictured above with me. It takes passion and collaboration on everyone’ s part to“ get it done.” We’ re all working for the common good, and that common good is our community. It’ s the Berkshires.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a great start to 2026.
