Bergen Domkor ( Bergen Cathedral Choir ), soloists and a baroque orchestra perform the cantata Erschallet , ihr Lieder , erklinget ihr Saiten ! by Johann Sebastian Bach during the service in Bergen Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday .
Bach composed over 200 cantatas for use in Sunday services . Ring out , you songs ; sound , you strings !, composed for Whit Sunday ( Pentecost ), was performed for the first time in the Weimar palace church on 20 May 1714 . Pentecost , when the Holy Spirit descended to the apostles , is referred to as the birthday of the Christian church , and the cantata is a grandiose celebration of this day . Bach himself is said to have been particularly pleased with the work .
Bergen Domkor led by cantor Kjetil Almenning is considered one of Norway ’ s foremost chamber choirs .

Crescendo violinist Guro Kleven Hagen and pianist Marianna Shirinyan celebrate the launch of their new album with a free concert at Apollon . The disc , featuring chamber music by Ravel , Poulenc and Prokofiev , was recorded in Sofienberg Church in Oslo last year .
Apollon , which opened in 1976 , is one of the oldest record shops in Norway . Some years ago they went live with a bar and some seventy seats in the shop . For the third year running the Bergen International Festival invites you to a classic concert in the record bar , where the mood is casual .
