WINNER OF THE NORWEGIAN SOLOIST PRIZE :
Ludvig Gudim with Håvard Gimse
DATE / TIME Monday 29 May at 19:00
DURATION 1:00
The concert will be recorded for TV by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation .
In 2016 violinist Ludvig Gudim gained not only the title Virtuos ( virtuoso ) but also the Norwegian Soloist Prize . This concert is part of the prize .
Ludvig , who has his eighteenth birthday in 2017 , started playing the violin at the age of five . He has already had solo performances with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra , Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra , Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra , the Trondheim Soloists , Oslo Camerata and Forsvarets musikkorps . As a keen chamber musician Ludvig has also performed with Itzhak Perlman , Henning Kraggerud , Lars Anders Tomter , Dora Schwarzberg and Ivry Gitlis .
‘ Ludvig Gudim plays with technical finesse and maturity rarely found in such young musicians . He is a true minstrel in the best sense of the word ,’ says Bergen International Festival director Anders Beyer , who presented the prize at the Virtuos competition for classical musicians under the age of 19 , run by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation .
In Ole Bull ’ s fairy-tale mansion Ludvig Gudim is accompanied by Håvard Gimse , who is recognised as an outstanding concert pianist in addition to being the preferred accompanist of many of Scandinavia ’ s top artists . The programme includes works by Mozart , Brahms and – of course – Ole Bull .

A versatile star duo performs French repertoire at Lysøen .
Isabelle van Keulen , violin , from the Netherlands and Kathryn Stott , piano , from Britain are internationally acclaimed concert soloists , each with decades of professional experience .
Both are also recognised as artistic directors and have instigated festivals and concert series with great success . Isabelle van Keulen has been artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra , which celebrates its 40th Anniversary during the 2017 Bergen International Festival . Both have recently been appointed to professorships at the Norwegian Academy of Music .
Another feature they share is a deep love of chamber music . This is evident in their long-standing collaboration with Ronald Brautigam , soloist in Grieg ’ s A minor Concerto in 2015 and Yo-Yo Ma , cello . In the magical surroundings of Ole Bull ’ s home they present works by Messiaen , Poulenc and Franck , alongside works by Ole Bull himself . The Guardian wrote of Isabelle van Keulen : ‘ Her taut musical intelligence and vivid sound combined with a fine instinct for the tender , searching quality of this music … absolutely magical .’ Kathryn Stott also has a solo recital in Grieg ’ s villa ( p . 65 ).
