A Silent Concert
On the Pacific islands, emotional choral song
in village churches is an important part of
everyday life. Pasifika Voices' repertoire spans
many styles, and for this particular concert they
have put together a programme based on the
islanders' deep religious roots.
md
At Askøy and Austevoll they will perform opera
hits by composers such as Verdi, Rossini and
Mozart, languorous operettas by Lehár and
songs by Grieg.
Pasifika Voices is led by Tuilagi Igelese Ete, a
Samoan composer, arranger and conductor, who
is known as the choirmaster in the film series
Lord of the Rings. Through song we glimpse
the young singers' family histories and culture.

Choral Extravaganza
at Moster Amfi
In the 1980s the old limestone mine was transformed into what is probably Northern Europe's finest
amphitheatre, and since then it has been a popular
concert venue. The two popular artists Herborg
Kråkevik and Jan Eggum bring three local choirs
with them as their perform songs from their own
repertoire as well as current choral works.

A light show around Lille Lungegårdsvann – with Grieg in your ear.
Experience a luminous outdoor concert in the
magical midnight hour.
Sven Sören Beyer from phase 7, the group behind
the multimedia performance Murmuration at the
Bergen International Festival in 2013, returns to
Bergen. The German artist transforms the small
lake into a light sculpture accompanied by a
concert that can only be heard through a special
set of headphones.
The score – Grieg's very own Piano Concerto
in A minor and a new work by Per Nørgård – is
taken from the concert Nordic Prism earlier the
same evening.
"We create an atmosphere to suit the music,
not disturb it. It will be a kind of visualisation
of Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor in which
we mix high tech and projections with lanterns,
dancers, paddlers and perhaps even an oselver
– a traditional Norwegian rowing boat. I am interested in triggering feelings through advanced
technology," says Beyer, who also created the
grand programme for the 25th anniversary of
the fall of the Berlin Wall last year.
Bring something to sit on, settle down by the water
with headphones on and let the festival mood set
in. Get ready to enjoy music in a new setting!
Nordic Prism and Midnight Reflection – A Silent
Concert are part of the festival's celebration
of Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra's 250-year
anniversary.
