As the two musicians join forces with Bergen
Philharmonic Orchestra they lose themselves in
the repertoire and create musical «nightmares»
of epic proportions. The show combines skits
and humour with well-known and unknown
works, such as Bond Mozart, Alla molto Turca
and Cleaning vs. River-dancing, all of them
amplified by a full symphony orchestra. You will
also experience Igudesman and Joo as soloists
in renowned concerts and their own orchestral
works. The performance is sure to delight lovers
of classical music, and those who run for cover
at the mere mention of the word ”Mozart”.

“I couldn’t stop crying of laughter for the whole
evening. Go see these gifted musicians. What
they show is life at its funniest side. It isn’t just
entertaining, it is hilarious!” – GIDON KREMER,

Great contrasts, commitment, and a
striking musicality.
With instruments made of oil drums, broken
kitchen utensils and metal pipes, youth from
Paraguay have shown that music is all about
interaction, involvement and communication. The members of Cateura – The Recycled
Orchestra live in the area around the landfill
with the same name in Paraguay's capital.
The story of the unique orchestra has attracted
international attention and the young musicians are now on a world tour. At the Bergen
International Festival they meet Norwegian
music school students. The two orchestras
will play together and separately, in a varied
programme for the entire family.
Environmental technician and musician Favio
Chavez founded the Cateura orchestra to
activate local children and create a greater
sense of solidarity. As they had no access to
regular instruments, he came up with the idea
of creating instruments from waste from the
landfill.
"It has been a long process to figure out what
sounds good. The instruments should not only
be exotic and strange, they should work for us
as an orchestra," Chavez says.
The Bergen International Festival has previously
initiated joint concerts between Norwegian
music school students and El Sistema from
Venezuela. These meetings whet the appetite
of both audience and musicians.
