This department is open to junior exhibitors as defined in the Benton County Fair General Livestock Rules. All general livestock rules of the fair apply to this department. In addition, the exhibitors in this section are subject to the following regulations.
Sheep rules: 1. All general and junior livestock rules of the fair apply to this department. 2. All exhibitors must be an ACTIVE Benton County 4-H of FFA member in Good Standing at the time of nomination / entry as well as time of the fair, by entering any projects in the Benton County Fair in Arkansas, you acknowledge that you have not and will not exhibit any projects( livestock, crafts, canned goods, etc.) in any county fair in this calendar year.
3. Sheep will be inspected on trailers before entering the fair gates. Market lambs must be slick shorn at this time. No covers will be allowed at inspection. Sheep showing symptoms of disease, particularly fungus, ringworm, foot rot, sore mouth, sheep pox, scrapie, and uncontrollable rectal prolapsed will not be allowed to show and must be removed from the grounds.
4. Market lamb exhibitors will be allowed to nominate six, however show, only three Market Lambs, wethers or ewes, weighing at least 80 lbs. may be shown and must have their baby teeth. One of these can be shown in the Commercial Ewe Class. But must be entered.
5. Grand or Reserve Champion lamb in the market lamb show CANNOT be shown in the commercial ewe class. Exhibitors showing the Grand or Reserve will have the option to substitute another ewe lamb owned by the exhibitor for this class. 6. All market lambs must be owned by the exhibitor by June 7.. 7. PAIRS will consist of two market lambs owned by the same person, they will be judged on quality and uniformity.
8. GROUP OF FIVE( 5) entries must all be market lambs, must all be from the same 4-H Club or FFA Chapter, and must compete in the same contest. Cloverbuds may compete with older 4-Hers and FFA( in GROUP OF 5) the group must be made up of five market lambs from at least three exhibitors. Each club or chapter may use no more than seven people to show the lambs. One entry per Club or Chapter.
9. All breeding animals must be judged by breeds or in commercial class. Animals in breed classes must have registration papers in exhibitor’ s name for thirty days prior to show, or will be put in commercial class. Only registered rams will be allowed to show
10. All sheep MUST have a Premise ID tag in place and readable at nomination date and will be confirmed at weigh-in.
