Youth Shooting & Archery Contest

Air Rifle : Open to all youth ages 14-18 years of age as of January 1st of this year . BB Gun : Open to all youth ages 9-13 years of age as of January 1st of this year .
This activity consists of three parts :
1 . A general gun safety session where these topics will be discussed : a . Gun safety rules . b . Safe handling and care of guns . c . The basic shooting positions used in this contest . d . Shooting range procedure .
2 . A brief written examination - Material will be taken from Arkansas Game and Fish Hunter Education material and general safety knowledge .
3 . Target shooting- Air Rifle ( ages 14-18 as of Jan . 1 ) Each participant will be provided with a target , which is to be signed by the participant . Each contestant will fire two pellets from each of the following positions : prone , standing and kneeling . a . The target used will be an NRA Official 10-meter air rifle or equivalent appropriate for 10-meter air rifle . b . The shooting distance will be 10 meters . c . The shooting positions for this match will be prone , standing and kneeling . d . Scoring will be based on shot group size , regardless of where the group is on the target . The smallest 6 shot group will receive the highest score . Gun sights will NOT be adjusted for individual participants due to time constraints .
4 . Target shooting- BB Gun ( ages 9-13 as of Jan . 1 ) Each participant will be provided with a target , which is to be signed by the participant . Each contestant will fire two bb ’ s from each of the following positions : prone , sitting and kneeling . a . The target used will be an NRA Official 5-meter rifle target for spring type , smooth bore bb-gun . b . The shooting distance will be 5 meters . c . The shooting positions for this match will be prone , sitting and kneeling .
5 . Scoring criteria is as follows :
• Verify 6 shots on target . Any shots not on target will be scored as Zero .
• Identify the farthest spaced shots , all other shots must fall inside the diameter established by these two shots .
• Measure the distance between these two shots ( with a caliper ) in centimeters . Close caliper between each measurement to insure zero , re-zero if necessary . Measure center of hole to center of hole by placing one blade of caliper on outside of margin of one hole and inside margin of the farthest hole . Calipers generally measure in millimeters divided by 10 ( move decimal to left ) to obtain centimeters . Used all decimals displayed . Subtract that number from 50 to obtain score .
