The Academy Award for Best Original Song -- dat one of the awards given annually to peeps working in da motion picture industry by da Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Dis Oscar is presented to the songwriters who are voted best in composing da best original song written specifically for a film. The performers of a song no get da credit with the Academy Award unless they contributed either to music, lyrics or both in their own right. Dis awards for songwriters. Yeah! Hoooooot!

The award category was introduced at the 7th Academy Awards the ceremony honoring da best in film for 1934. Wow! Long times ago, eh? Nominations are made by Academy members who are songwriters and composers, and da winners are chosen by the Academy membership as a whole. Everybody votes! Yeah!

AND THE 2013 NOMINEES WERE:

Frozen -”Let It Go”

Disney power and da big number of the entire film.  BFCA winner.  Possible EGOT maker in Robert Lopez.

Despicable Me 2 -”Happy”

Big push from Universal Pictures and a way to get a contemporary artist like Pharrell an Oscar after a strong night at da Grammys.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom - “Ordinary Love”

Bono, U2, and da Weinsteins.  Golden Globe winner.

Her - “The Moon Song”

Another opportunity to reward Spike.  A very beautiful and tender moment in da film. Lots of tears! –weap-weap-

FINAL PREDICTIONS: The Golden Globes went with the power of U2 and Bono.  The Weinsteins have pushed that song pretty hard.  So has Universal Pictures with “Happy” from “Despicable Me 2.”  Pharrell also just won a buttload of Grammy Awards which helps. Disney has also done a phenomenal job pushing “Let It Go” (in 25 languages).  There’s also an opportunity to create a new EGOT with Robert Lopez.
