The average cost for liposuction in 2012 was $2,852, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The problem with this is this only covered the surgeon’s fee. Additional expenses for anesthesia, post-surgery garments, medical testing and other surgery-related supplies and treatments may or may not be covered.
With this in mind we find that most insurance plans won’t cover a majority of this cost. This leads to pre-planning so to be able to afford this cost for most of us.
The average cost runs between:
- Abdominal area average $4,000 to $9,000
- Arms and thighs average between $2,000 and $6,000
And of course if this can be doubled or tripled if you are having liposuction on more than one area of your body.
There are a few different types of liposuction:
-Tumescent liposuction involves injecting a saline solution into the fat to be removed to break down fat cells for easier removal
-Ultrasonic assisted liposuction uses ultrasonic waves along with saline solution to break the fat down into a thin liquid for removal
-SmartLipo is a nonsurgical procedure that uses a laser passed over the surface of the skin to break down fat cells, which will be flushed from the body over a few days.
Pre-and post-procedure tests and medications will cost extra money, as will any complications that may arise. If you don’t want to take on debt,
you’ll have to come up with the
money. Cost isn’t the most
important consideration in plastic
surgery. The surgeon’s experience,
the facilities where the surgery is
performed and the extent of the
surgery are just as important to
your recovery, comfort and
outcome. Then there are the
psychological effects to be factored
in. This is a life altering procedure
and the mind will be affected just as
much as the body.
