Academic Excellence Carlow College, St. Patrick’ s is the second oldest third level institution in Ireland and has been serving the educational needs of students across Ireland since 1793. Over the years Carlow College has educated generations of leaders in Irish society. Our ratio of doctoral level lecturers to students is the highest in the south-east of Ireland, ensuring that the student learning experience is of the highest possible academic standard. Carlow College, St. Patrick’ s offers degree programmes in Humanities, Applied Social Studies in Social Care, English and History, and Citizenship and Community Studies. Successful students have the potential to secure future careers in the fields of education / teaching, social care, health care, journalism and media, libraries and archives. The Humanities and English and History degrees have recognition from the Teaching Council for the purposes of teaching English, History and Religion. Many of our graduates from the Social Care programmes will pursue careers in care agencies where the skills they have acquired in their degree will be directly applicable. A number of students pursue postgraduate study and many return to Carlow College after some years of practical work experience to take the Masters in Therapeutic Child Care( MATCC).
