Just recently we had the pleaseure to sit down with local artist Fabizio Cruz a native of Guatemala who considers himself a passionate art lover, an artist an illustrator who likes to express spontaneous, sarcastic, surreal, blunt artistic renditions of the world he lives in.
For Fabrizio aka "FAB" the entire process from idea to sketch, building a frame and stretching the canvas brings him excitement and satisfaction.
He tells us that his influences include Magritte, Modigliani, Kandinsky, Munch, Dali and Klimt resulting in a blend of texture, bright colors in a Figurative, Surreal, Expressionist style.
His Textural Work uses various materials - modeling paste, wood, fabric, pebbles, leather etc. This has helped him to develop an eye for differences in movement, flow and depth, texture and color values. His Digital Work combines vivid colors and surreal imagery with a touch of sarcasm. "You know, memories, life and society are good sources for inspiration or desperation" says the artist. FAB goes back to his childhood by telling us that his first canvas was his mom’s wedding dress." (yes really!)
One of the most rewarding feelings for FAB is when people find something in his work they connect with.
So we went on a more personal level with FAB to get more in depth with the individual, this charesmatic person with a radiant personality goes on by saying ,
"What people say about me: I’m a funny lovable gay man. What I think about myself: “I’m a crazy imaginative bitch.” Motto: “Be yourself, dammit!”
However dont let all that colorful personality be all you know about FAB, he graduated with a degree in fine Arts in his native country of Guatemala.
After relocating to the United States FAB has been blessed by showing his art at the “Up and coming artists” 1998 Broward County Main Library, Moore-Lynn Gallery “One man Show” 2000 Fort Lauderdale

In addition of his own studio in Fort Lauderdale and sales online, FAB has joined forces as an
Art teacher and entertainer at Painting With A Twist-Fort Lauderdale.
"I like to bring out the hidden artist inside everybody. And make them enjoy their session, relax and laugh. At the end they are happily surprised of what they created. That to me is a great reward, along with the tips of course! ;)
