MAKE SURE YOUR PET DOESNT OVEREXERT.

Excersise is very important to keep your pet at a healthy weight, which helps their body stay cool. Overdoing it can cause over heat. Consider keeping walks to a gentle pace and must important make sure you carry plenty of fresh water. If your pet starts panting alot or seems exausted its time to STOP.

A WORD OF CAUTION

Elderly, very young and ill animals have a hard time regulating their body temperature. Make sure they stay cool and out of the sun on hot steamy summer days

specially to avoid heatstroke which is consider a medical emergency.

If you find yourself on this unfortunate situation call a veterinarian immediaetely. Meanwhile lower your pet body temperature BY applyIing towels soaked in cool water to the hairless area of the body. Often the pet will respond after a few minutes of cooling only to falter again with his or her temperature soaring back up or falling to well below what is normal. Once your pet is under a veterinarian care, treatment may include further cooling techniques, intravenous fluid therapy to counter shock or medication to prevent or reverse brain damage.

WATCH OUT FOR ANTIFREEZE

Hot summer days may tempt your pet to drink from puddles in the street, which can contain antifreeze and other chemicals.

ANTIFREEZE HAS A SWEET TASTE that animals like but this is very TOXIC.

Keep an eye on your pet at all times when out for a walk and be sure to check your home surroundings for any possible harmful puddles.
