“Dreams can be obtained at any age if you believe in yourself and work hard for it.”
Dorothy Gilmore-Seavers was born October 25, 1961 in Cleveland MS, a small town in the Mississippi Delta where the railroad tracks historically separated the white side of town from the black side. She’s the third oldest of four brothers and three sisters. Growing up with a large family in the poorest part of the country was a challenge for a young girl with an interest in fashion. She would often sneak her mom’s dresses from the closet, wear them to school, and return them before they were missed. At the early age of 14 years, she landed her first job picking cotton at $15 a day. She saved her money and bought whatever clothes she could. Although she was often an overall wearing tomboy, she was voted Best Dressed in High School. Dorothy was not idle during her high school years. She was a cheerleader, model, outstanding basketball player, and prom queen all while playing 1st clarinet in the high school band. She was also academic, graduating second in her class.
After receiving her degree in Management/Marketing from Delta State University, she moved to Pittsburgh and continued modeling while managing a retail clothing store. Dorothy later moved to Nashville TN after being offered her own store for a large retailer in a downtown mall. After the mall’s closing, Dorothy continued modeling and began working as an administrative assistant for several large architecture firms.
Being single at 42 and searching for love, Dorothy decided to go online and try her luck. She was about to give up after E-Harmony was unable to find her any matches. As a last ditch effort, she joined match.com and found the profile of an unusual man holding a globe on his shoulders. Little did she know that she had found her soulmate and future husband, Jace K. Seavers. After he informed her that he was also ejected by E-Harmony, they knew that they had both found something special.

While dating Jace, Dorothy came home one day expressing frustration in not knowing what to do with the rest of her life. Jace seemed to be good at everything. He was a poet who played upright bass, sang, composed music, performed locally in his own musical group, a graphic artist, electrician, and engineer. In comparison, Dorothy felt like she was doing nothing with her life and abilities. Jace suggested that she pick a direction, any direction, and just go for it. And she did!
Dorothy took some voice lessons from renowned vocal coach Ron Browning. Jace, seeing her natural ability for singing and performance, re-tooled his act to incorporate Dorothy and together they formed the group “Meet The Seavers”. Their music is unusual, incorporating elements of jazz , vaudeville, odd time signatures, and far-reaching lyrics. The two began performing regionally. Upon suggestion, they decided to host and produce their own TV show (The Meet The Seavers Show) modeled after The Sony and Cheer Show. The show airs several times weekly in Nashville Tennessee and in various cities throughout the United States. They are currently working on pitching the show to a larger cable network.
