makeup line dream job the creator Stacy Reid, a founder and owner of TINte Cosmetics was making her career in fashion industry, but cosmetic was always a passion of hers since she was a little girl. No wonder she decided to follow her gut and change her life - making her dream a reality. Tell us about your business name, how did you come up with it? The name “TINte” means color, we put the emphasis on the TIN as our slider tin flavored lip glosses are what were are most known for and they are one of the first products I’ve created. How did you come up with an idea of your own beauty range? The inspiration behind my brand was that I could never find a lip gloss that could moisturize and heal my lips, and tasted good. It was at this point that I realized I had to create a gloss that nourished my lips, tasted great and looked beautiful. From this need TINte’s Flavored lip glosses enriched with Shea Butter were created. My very first lip gloss came in a similar slider tin. This nostalgic feeling from my childhood made me want to recreate sweet memories for the sophisticated women of today. How long did it take to have your own range ready and start selling it? It took about a year and a half to develop the packaging and to get the formulations and shades ready for the market. We officially launched in March 2004. Today we have 36 employees. How did you start knowing nothing about beauty industry? My background was the fashion industry and although fashion and beauty go hand in hand, it is a completely different industry that I had to break into. I was probably a bit naive when I first started because it was all new to me but you have to learn things quickly and find the best way to position yourself in the industry. What was the biggest challenge? I started when I was 31 years old and my biggest challenge was to get my brand recognized in the sea of other beauty brands. That was difficult, but once your product is it out there and it’s a good product, people start noticing you and so do the beauty editors. Another challenge is accepting that your plan may change. Being open to that change can bring bigger and better opportunities that you never imagined to come your way. tintecosmetics.com 45
