“the difference between STYLE and fashion is quality” La Dolce Vita Frederico Fellini’s movie is one of the most stylish films ever made. Fellini was inspired by ‘sack dresses’ designed by Spanish fashion house Balenciaga. When he put a black sack dress on Ekberg, while she stood in the Trevi fountain, it became one of the most iconic movie scenes ever. It is no wonder the film later won the best costume at the academy awards. Bonny and Clyde Looking stylish while stealing money is possible only in the movies. Although set in the 1930s, the Bonnie’s wardrobe with berets, long skirts, tweed and fine knits has a seventies feel. Combined with a bob hairstyle, the stylish look became an instant trend-setting sensation. Orry Kelly won the best costume design for this picture, and deservedly so. With risqué outfits that left little to the imagination, two cross dressing males and Marilyn Monroe in nude chiffon cocktail dress! Belle de Jour Yves Saint Laurent styled a film star Catherine Deneuve in a wardrobe that managed to make even a prostitute look elegant. Her tailored coats and dresses, knee length pencil skirts and that just rolled out of bed look, are still hot in the fashion world today. 10
