She is one of the most successful bloggers from the former communistic countries. Zorana Jovanović loves fashion and knows how to make it work for herself and her career.
You live in Serbia- was it easy to develop yourself anyhow in fashion sense? Definitely not! I love my country but it’ s really hard to be fashionable when people just don’ t see it like that. If you wear a dress with bare legs and boots that’ s a no-no. If you wear a beanie and sandals even bigger no-no! I’ m trying to explain them that rompers are way cooler then in 1990 but it’ s hard! People always think that you can’ t wear sandals and fur because either you are hot up or cold down. It’ s just fashion. We have to play!
You lived in the US some time ago- how did it influence your life? L. A is my fave city in the whole world, I feel like home there. I lived there a few years ago but I already traveled to the US as a little girl with my mum and spent there every summer to learn English, so I am pretty ' americanized’. What I really love about the US is the fact that with fashion you can see everything there. I love that there are no rules in dressing up.
You study fashion in Serbia at Italian Academy. Do you actually need to finish the school when you already work in fashion? I will be a fashion stylist. I love fashion so my choice is to do that and I want to have a full package. I want to have a degree so that no one can say I don’ t deserve my place in a fashion industry. And my dream job is to be a buyer for some huge company like Net-a-Porter, My Theresa or ASOS.
You are still a student but you are also an entepreneur. You already have your own shops with items bearing your name- where did the idea come from? I have two shops in Serbia and an online store, it was my mum’ s idea, I’ ve never wanted to be a designer and I’ m not. We make basic pieces and then we decorate them in a fashionable way- with studs, crystals, pearls. At the moment we have very popular puff skirts, t-shirts, loafers, swim suits. All the things I want to wear but can’ t find anywhere.
