Belinda Murrell: Bringing Australian History To Life | Page 8

SCHOOL VISITS SCHOOL VISITS WITH BELINDA MEETING A REAL-LIFE AUTHOR IS SUCH A SPECIAL TREAT FOR US ALL, AND ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN. AUTHOR VISITS ARE A WONDERFUL WAY TO GET STUDENTS HOOKED ON READING AND, IN MANY CASES, WRITING, DRAWING AND EVEN RESEARCHING. Belinda Murrell’s talks are entertaining, informative and utterly inspiring for primary and lower secondary students. Belinda shares her family’s fascinating literary legacy with the students and discusses the motivation behind each of her stories. She talks about the publishing process and just how her manuscripts become beautifully bound books in stores. Belinda is also available to host creative writing workshops with students, where she’ll give detailed guidance on research, plot development and characterisation. We have had the immense pleasure of a visit from Belinda recently. The students were enthralled by her experiences as a writer and were anxious to know all about the process of getting your ideas down on paper and finally into a book. Belinda is an entertaining, enthusiastic speaker who kept the students’ attention throughout her visit. The students loved hearing about the characters and were very anxious to know more about her next books. – Elleni, teacher-librarian at Allambie Heights Public School 8 randomhouse.com.au/teachers
