Rationale for the inclusion of this capability in a Christian/public school
The Critical Thinking Community says, "Critical thinking is the art of taking charge of your own mind. Its value is simple: if we can take charge of our own minds, we can take charge of our lives." Critical and creative thinking is an important of schools. It is used within both Christian and Public schools, as it is a key aspect of the organising elements of the Australian Curriculum. It is important for the students to have this type of thinking as it enhances their knowledge and skills throughout their education and are necessary for later in life. Teachers usually base class lessons around enhancing student’s critical and creative thinking. These critical and creative thinking lessons are designed to produce a higher level thinking response. Each lesson is structured to adhere to the cognitive development of each child in order to enhance not only their critical and creative thinking skills, but being able to problem- solve, engage in new ideas, and connect content to prior knowledge. However, as this is the case in both public and Christian schools, Christianity focuses on teaching the critical and creative thinking in more biblical terms, whereas public schools do not - Both knowing and understanding are key. But beyond both knowledge and understanding, is the quality of discernment (judgment or evaluation) that distinguishes the godly from the ungodly (1 Cor. 2:14–15)
