In the 21st century learners need to develop the appropriate skills to analyse, respond and reflect to authentic situations through inquiry, imagination and innovation. Throughout the Australian Curriculum students are able to develop abilities in developing critical and creative thinking as they learn to generate knowledge, clarify concepts, seek possibilities and solve problems.

Critical and creative thinking require students to think broadly using skills to develop imagination and innovation in all learning areas in the classroom and beyond. It is believed that critical and creative thinkers are fundamentally becoming successful learners in all aspects and subjects. Developing these skills enables learners to effectively use strategies increasing student’s engagement of their own learning. They also become more confident and have the ability to transition and become problem solvers and thinkers.
