BABE RUTH: AN AMERICAN HERO
Just before the Yankees were about to play St Louis in the World Series a man named Sylvester made an unusual request.
His son was in the hospital with a severe brain injury from a horse riding accident and asked if Babe could visit him in the hospital. Babe Ruth, aware of Johnny Sylvester’s condition promised he’d hit a home run for Johnny in the next game.
That game finally came on October 6, 1926. With a stadium packed with 38000 fans and the Yankees down by two, Babe came up to the bat, hitting not only one home run, but three!
“I saw the ball come flying out of the stadium and smash through the car dealerships window!” a witness said. The Yankees won the game 10-5 that day.
Babe Ruth continued promising Johnny homeruns and visiting him in the hospital. Within a few weeks Johnny's spirits had lifted and he miraculously recovered.
Babe Ruth wasn’t just a player, he was a dedicated player who cherished his fans as much as they did him.
