What a Culture shock!

The Flappers' image consists of drastic - to many, shocking - changes in women's clothing and hair. Just about every article of clothing had been trimmed down and lightened in order to make movement easier on the dancefloor of the speakeasies. Did we also mention that these women are drinking and smoking in public now? They certainly are and they're ready to let loose!

To some, they are considered "vulgar" and "unlady-like", but they are striding down the street with their newly found independence. Some even cut their hair to their chins to show their defiance of female steryotypes. Women of this age are fed up with being nothing more than a typical house wife. They're tired of watching the children and cleaning the houses! They're now out and about partying till the light of dawn, and nothing can stop them!

The Gibson Girl: the steryotypical women who prided her long hair and girlish ways was even more shocked when the fapper popped up and cut their hair. This short haircut is called the "bob" which was later replaced by an even shorter haircut, the "shingle" or "Eton" cut.

What is even more shocking is that the flappers are also starting to wear make-up! It is such a culture shock to see something that had previously been only worn by loose women, being worn by the everyday women! Rouge, powder, eye-liner, and lipstick are now on the incline and have become extremely popular.
