Approximately 1,000 b ’ nei Torah from throughout Far Rockaway and the Five Towns gathered at Mesivta Chaim Shlomo to welcome one of the most senior and illustrious sages of Klal Yisrael , Maran Hagaon Rav Dov Landau shlita .
Rav Landau serves as the rosh yeshiva of the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and has taught and developed generations of talmidim . His influence and leadership extend beyond B ’ nei Brak to the global Torah community . Already in his youth , he was accorded respect by giants such as the Chazon Ish , who recognized the greatness and potential of the budding talmid chacham and future manhig .
The purpose of this trip , Rav Landau ’ s firstever to the United States , was to be mechazeik and encourage the yeshiva and kollel movement . His shiur at Yeshiva Darchei Torah was on a sugya in Perek Chezkas HaBatim of Bava Basra , the current mesechta being studied by the Mesivta , Beis Medrash , and Kollel .
It was an unforgettable moment — and ma ’ amad — of Kavod HaTorah , on a scale reminiscent of the visits of Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman zt ” l to our yeshiva in 1998 and 2004 .
