Just a week later, on the 30th April, the pair attended the ‘Oscars’ of the B&B industry – the annual AA B&B Awards at the Landmark Hotel in London, where they were named ‘Unique B&B of the Year’. Simon Numphud, Managing Director of Hotel and Hospitality Services at The AA said: ‘It is our way of thanking and recognizing the establishments and individuals who demonstrate all-round excellence, unfailing standards and outstanding service’. Andy told us “We were delighted to win a national award from TripAdvisor, but to go on to win two more national awards was amazing. It’s fantastic to be recognized for our hard work. We created our own ideal place to stay at The 25 and are thrilled so many people love what we do.” Julian added, “At The 25 we literally took many areas of the building back to the brick and started again. It was an opportunity to make sure we did everything right: from high pressure showers to sockets in the right places, but it’s much more than that. It’s all the little touches that make us such a unique, special place to stay.” Reflecting on the reasons for their success, Andy says “We’ve tried to think of everything to make a stay with us truly memorable - daily home baked goodies in your room, pillow mist, mood lighting, hand written notes, Elemis toiletries, bathroom TVs, movies on demand. We’re also blessed with a fantastic location: the English Riviera is renowned for its climate, making it a great all year round destination.” Andy & Julian have a track record of success in the hospitality sector, having previously turned a failing hotel in North Wales around, which also received a top ten ranking on TripAdvisor during their tenure. The 25 Boutique B&B has six very different bedrooms, all with cutting edge design by Andy and the latest technology by former IT Manager Julian. Their five star rating reflects the quality they offer, but in their online reviews, time and time again guests mention the friendliness of their hosts and the little extra touches that set it apart from other B&Bs. The 25 is just a short walk from the seafront via the grounds of their closest tourist attraction, Torre Abbey, and another ten minutes away is the main harbour area of Torquay. With a nearby train station, local ferries and buses, it’s easy for guests to be car-free during their stay. Andy plans to capitalise on their recent success and has set up a training company for other budding B&Bers. He said “Having done it twice, we know what it takes to make a successful B&B and I’d like to help people choose the right property and make the best decisions from the outset. In today’s online world, it’s no longer enough to learn the ropes on the job, you need to excel from day one.” www.the25.uk
