COSTS +
FUNDRAISING
Below is a breakdown of the expected costs (AUD)
of your volunteer program with Kenya Aid:
FLIGHTS
TAXIS
A taxi between Nairobi airport and your hotel will
cost approximately $30.
Return flights from Sydney to Nairobi generally
cost between $1,800 - $2,500 depending on your
selected travel dates.
Transport from Kisumu airport to Shikunga via
private car will cost approximately $80.
Flights between Kisumu and Nairobi are
approximately $80 - $100 each way
VACCINATIONS
The cost of vaccinations will vary depending on
what you require and the practitioner you use. See
your GP for more details.
Travel insurance is often provided free with
some credit cards but it is your responsibility to
check that the level of cover is adequate prior
to departure. You can also buy travel insurance
through your travel agent of health insurance
provider. Costs will vary but expect to pay
approximately $200 - $300 for a two week stay.
ACCOMMODATION
PROGRAM FEE
Onesmus charges $20 per person per day while
you are in Shikunga to cover your room, board
and food.
We do however require that you do some
fundraising activities before you leave. The
amounts that we expect you to raise are outlined
below. 100% of this money will be used to pay for
activities undertaken while you are in Kenya.
Accommodation in Nairobi with our preferred
supplier ranges in cost from $15 to $120 per
person, per night, depending on the type of room
you choose. All rooms have breakfast included.
VISAS
Visas to Kenya cost $50 and can be obtained in
advance at your local Kenyan embassy or en route
at customs in Nairobi. If you choose to purchase
your visa in Nairobi you must have $50US on your
person to make the transaction.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Kenya Aid does not charge an administration fee to
its volunteers. As we try to keep our running costs
as low as possible most of our administration costs
are covered by our board members.
All money raised is tax deductible and should be
deposited into the Kenya Aid bank account.
