ABOUT KENYA AID
Kenya Aid is an Australian based organisation that
is dedicated to improving the lives of people living
in Western Kenya through the provision of quality
health and education services.
We are committed to providing sustainable aid
and to building up local communities by providing
them with the skills they need to run their own
social and economic structures. We staff our
hospital and school with local Kenyan employees
and volunteers wherever possible and utilise
overseas volunteers to increase the knowledge
and skill set of the community, rather than take
valuable jobs away from the community.

Kenya Aid uses a variety of community based
strategies to deliver evidence based interventions
that fit with the local Kenyan culture. We believe
that education is the key to lasting change
so teaching - and learning - are important
cornerstones in each of our programs.
The focal point of our activities in Kenya is the
local Shikunga hospital. This facility has 15
inpatient beds, a delivery suite and maternity ward,
laboratory, outpatient clinic and ambulance. It
is the only hospital for miles and despite its bare
bones appearance, is one of the better stocked
facilities in the district.
From this hospital we run a broad spectrum
of programs aimed at tackling malaria, HIV/
AIDS, maternal and child health issues as well
as a number of community health problems.
The ambulance service also allows us to transfer
critically ill patients for life-saving treatment at
other hospitals.
