ACTIVITIES
Kenya Aid’s volunteer program has two main streams - health and education. Depending on your skill set
you will be based at either the hospital or the school and will have the opportunity to experience rural
life and Kenya’s vast natural highlights during your downtime and days off.
THE HOSPITAL
If you are a medical professional you will spend

staff in the Shikunga Hospital. The capacity in
which you will be working will be dependent on
your experience and what you are comfortable
with. The hospital is staffed 7 days a week with
Kenyan medical personnel and you will be working
alongside them. The hospital system in Kenya is
run mainly by clinical officers with doctors only
working in large hospitals in major cities. The
Shikunga Hospital has 2 clinical officers and 2
nurses who work alongside a laboratory technician
and HIV counselor.
Some of the things you may be doing include
seeing outpatients and instituting treatment,
looking after inpatients, providing vaccinations,
assisting with deliveries, holding community
health education sessions and providing
antenatal care to pregnant women. Education is
one of the cornerstones of our program and we
