NW Coniferous FOREST

ABIOTIC FACTORS

There are many abiotic factors that are involved in the Northwestern Coniferous Forest. Since this biome borders the coast the humidity in the air is very wet and there rain is not uncommon here. The soil here is very acidic and the nutrients in the soil are generally drained. The tall trees in the area use much of the nutrients in the soil to grow to amazing heights. Generally cloud here is very common and the clouds cover the entire sky causing less sunlight and more darkness. There is a lot of rocky terrain here due to lack of soil. The sediment in the soil is the main cause of the acidity. On the coast of the forest the water levels are very aphotic and there is not much sunlight seen due to abundance of clouds. Much of the water depth near the Northwestern forest lies in the benthic realm. Here the rocks are very sharp according to some sources and there are many different types of terrains in this area. The rocks are very eroded and there are nooks and crannies everywhere. There may also be hot geysers in this area but many people are unsure of what is down here because it is very difficult to access. Sand and mud are found at the bottom of the layer and often there is almost no light visible here.
