Fisher and Lemmert pose together after Ellie qualified for State at Regionals . barely missing the mark last year , I worked extra hard and I ’ m extremely proud for improving as much as I did .”
The state competition was held on the University of Texas campus . Ellie was joined by several other 4A teams , many of whom she had never seen before .
“ I don ’ t really know what I was expecting , but I ’ m happy with what state was ,” Lemmert said . “ When I first walked in , everything looked so professional and the other swimmers were kind of intimidating , but after talking to everyone I realized they were all in the same shoes as I was .”
Superintendent Keri Hampton and High School Principal Brent Cooper attended the state meet along with many of Ellie ’ s friends and family members .
“ It ’ s hard for me to believe that I was one of the people standing behind the blocks with hundreds of people watching ,” Lemmert said . “ It ’ s such a surreal experience and I will never forget it .”
Ellie began swimming at the age of 5 on a team called Metro . Today , she is the only member of the Brownsboro Swim Team , sponsored by High School History teacher , Kim Fisher .
“ It ’ s been so much fun , just being able to take part in all of it has been great ” Fisher said . “ I couldn ’ t have asked for a better athlete to coach , Ellie has a happy disposition , is extremely
humble , and is an amazing athlete .”
Prior to her time with Elllie , Fisher had no experience or knowledge of swimming as a sport . During the summer of 2021 , Athletic Director , Lance Connot , approached Fisher about potentially sponsoring students for UIL Swimming .
“ We discussed what the swimming program would look like at Brownsboro ISD and what I needed to do as her sponsor ,” Fisher said . “ Then I spent the rest of the summer learning about this new sport and making contact with local coaches about meets for the fall .”
Throughout her seasons with Lemmert , Fisher has attended several meets , however State was the largest meet they had attended .
“ It was definitely a different experience at this pool , but Ellie was calm and collected the entire time ,” Fisher said .
At meets , the swimmers typically warm up in the same pool they compete in , however at State , Lemmert was required to warm up in a separate pool .
“ Swimming has taken me to so many places I ’ d never would ’ ve guessed I would go ,” Lemmert said . “ I truly think that I was meant to become a swimmer because it ’ s had such a powerful and meaningful impact on my life .”
