“ My favorite part was seeing the excitement on the student ’ s faces when they made a connection or had some information to add about what they were learning ,” Gray said . “ Parents and kids alike were all very interested in the activities and new information !”
Rickey Dailey reached out to the Perot Museum about their Family Science Nights back in 2016-2017 and they have had them come each Spring since then to host a family science night .
“ Our hope is that students learn and have fun engaging with science and we are able to make a positive connection with students and their family ,” Dailey said .

Meteorologist , Katie Vossler , vists CES
KLTV Meteorologist , Katie Vossler , met with the first grade CES students this spring to give a lesson over weather and tell students about her job . Rebecca Pagitt , a first grade teacher at CES , reached out to Katie Vossler and the station to set up the event .
“ Though Katie mentioned that she does not do many school presentations she said , ‘ I couldn ’ t say no when I heard it was in Chandler . Chandler holds a special place in my heart ,” Pagitt said .
Katie Vossler spoke on many topics during her visit . She introduced herself by sharing information on her education , career and answered many questions students had about what it is like being a news anchor . She discussed parts of weather , types of clouds , and tornado safety . She used a slide show with graphics and vocabulary covering each talking point . She also did a visual experiment with a jar of water , food dye and shaving cream to demonstrate how rain fell from clouds . STUDENT QUOTE ????
“ I like when she talked about first alert weather days and tornadoes ,” first grade student , Isaiah Garcia said .
“ The tornado safety was cool ,” first grade student , Journey Cook said . “ Now I know the difference between a watch and a warning ,”
“ Learning about storms was my favorite part ,” first grade student Sadie Quates said . First grade covers many TEKS that involve weather . For the past few years , CES first grade teachers have incorporated the morning KLTV weather clip into their calendar routines . This gave the students an opportunity to meet a local celebrity that they see on TV each day . “ Katie Vossler ’ s visit was exciting , engaging and educational ,” CES first grade teacher , Rebecca Pagitt , said . “ She made sure to cover many areas of weather and meteorology , while maintaining an elementary level of description for her audience .”
