During the two weeks of fundraising , the APEX team had incentives on certain days such as giving the top student an Amazon or Fortnite gift card , giving the top five students a DQ blizzard of their choice , or even a free Whataburger lunch . The staff also challenged the students to participate .
“ The kids got so pumped up for the battle throughout lunch , announcements , and even in-class challenges ,” 4th grade math teacher Mrs . Gutierrez said . “ The involvement with the students was awesome !”
At the end of the two weeks , the APEX team came to set up the battle outside . Any student that raised $ 30 or more received a white APEX t-shirt , and was excused from classes to be able to participate . Students that raised enough money were also able to qualify for all Bear Pride Trips in the year .
“ The fundraiser was fun , plus we knew our reward was to have a big Color Battle ,” 6th grader at CIS Elizabeth Hopson said .“ It ’ s a great activity so the kids can get involved and help the school .”
During the battle , students played several team competitions and relay style games . While the students participated , teachers threw colored powder on them .
“ The involvement and games is an absolute blast and , of course , I participated ,” Gutierrez said . “ I could not wait to get some of my students back from last year and throw color at my current students as well as my coworkers ! I will be looking forward to this every year !”
Teachers weren ’ t the only ones having fun throwing the colored chalk . Afterwards , students had a color war of their own with the teachers .
“ It was especially fun during the battle when teachers threw color on us , and after the games we got to throw it back at them ,” Hopson said .
The school plans to use the money raised for teacher ’ s supplies , Bear Pride trips , and other incentives throughout the year .
“ The Color Battle was a great success , and is a favorite amongst our students ,” CIS principal Melissa Barret said . “ However , I ’ m not sure who had more fun , the students or the staff !”
