“ We are really excited to offer students a chance to be in these student-led organizations that are nationally recognized ,” Wilson said . “ This gives students a leadership opportunity while also using their skills in communications in volunteer aspects in our community .”
SOCIAL MEDIA AND BROADCASTING
Brownsboro offers another internship programs in communications led by Emily Siemens . This class runs the social media classes and sports broadcasting . This year they took sports broadcasting a step further and the interns were able to run it all and do their own live commentary . The class and program is growing tremendously and making a better impact on the school .
“ This has been an amazing opportunity for our community to have access to sporting events this year that they otherwise wouldn ' t be able to see ,” Siemens said . “ Our interns have been able to record live feeds of football , volleyball , and basketball games so our community feels connected . Our interns have also had the opportunity to give live commentary , too . It ' s been a great experience for them .”

This class prepares students for the real world and allows the community to hear and see what they are doing , much more than before .
“ I think what sets us apart is that students are taking ownership and having a voice in our district - they are taking the reins and making decisions ,” Siemens said . “ From changing the face of campuses to changing the voice of our district - we are ensuring students come first . It ' s truly an honor and privilege !”
FAMILY CONSUMER SCIENCE
Family Consumer Sciences ( FCS ) taught by Amanda Gwynn is yet another program that has added new activities to enhance the student experience .
“ In principles of human services , we cover several topics such as family relationships , parenting , budgeting , housing , nutrition , communication , mental health , and clothing care .” Gwynn said . “ In our clothing care unit , we learn basic sewing skills by hand and using a sewing machine . This year students are making stuffed animals by hand

The sewing unit added to Principles of HS has been a huge hit and Child Development has enjoyed getting in class experience with the baby simulators . The changes are in an effort to better prepare students for life after high school .
Next year the program is offering the option to earn the community health worker certification .
“ The courses in this pathway include : Principles of Human Services , Child Development , and Community Service Learning ,” Gwynn said . “ We will also be adding a Practicum in Human Services . This pathway will give students the opportunity to earn the community health worker certification .”
FCCLA
FCCLA is the student organization for FCS as well as Culinary and the program has a Regional and a State Officer in the FCCLA organization for 2022-23 as well as four state qualifying teams .
ADULTING 101
Adulting 101 is a program that is offered every year to help prepare students for the challenges in life after high school . In this program community members walk seniors through the processes such as : What buying a car entails , when to start saving , how to meal prep or cook for one , and the responsibilities as a renter or homeowner .
“ People from the community visit with the seniors to help them prepare for the real world ,” CTE Director Sandra Choate said . “ We simply want to give them an idea of what is going to hit them when they walk into the real world .”
The motto of the Brownsboro CTE Department is Building Skills Through Experiences and they are working to expand those experiences .
Students participated in various activities and lessons that would help prepare them for their future .
