Bear Radio allows students to run the radio station and commentate on sporting events live . The program is one of the largest radio broadcasting classes in the area . Brownsboro has something not a lot of schools have which is its very own broadcasting license . This makes the program more unique and different as it doesn ' t rely on an average online program .

CNA , Certified Nursing Assistant , is the foundation for a Health Science career at the high school . In the class , students learn hands on patient care as they master how to react to emergencies such as seizures and falls , how to feed someone who can not feed themselves , and how to take blood pressures . Students also get CPR certified in the class , which can help them in other areas of work as well , such as lifeguarding or babysitting .
“ We do a lot of fun things in class ,” CNA student Riley Cawthon said . “ We get to do hands-on activities every single day with the mannequins that we have . My favorite thing that we have done was going to the elementary and helping the nurse there .”
The class also provides benefits for students in their career . Once they graduate , they are able to start working as a CNA , especially if they decide to go to nursing school .

The second program of study in the high school ’ s communication cluster includes the commercial photography and graphic design classes . These classes are taught by Chad Wilson and he has worked to expand the programs even more this year . On the photography aspect , this is the first year that the students are taking high school and junior high sports portraits .
The graphic design classes have designed numerous signs and window coverings to decorate most every campus in BISD . Most of this work is done by the student media interns and the income from these endeavors goes straight back to the student media account which allows the interns to have better equipment and out of class experiences like touring AT & T stadium , and taking photos at Caldwell Zoo .

“ CNA has helped me in many ways ,” Riley said . “ It has made me realize that nursing is actually what I want to do in the future and it has made me less nervous and feel more prepared for nursing school .”
In order to get into the class , a student has to go through an application process . They also have to take the following classes : Principles of Health Science , a basic health science class with an introduction to hands on , Medical Terminology , where students learn medical terms and how to document patient care , and Anatomy & Physiology , going in depth of each body system .
“ I have worked in healthcare for over 10 years and most of that was beside a CNA ,” CNA teacher Kristy Holder said . “ I want to help students be the CNA I would want to work with , or that I would want taking care of my family member .”

The Arts , Audio-Visual Technology and Communications students are now able to be members of SkillsUSA which is a national organization like FFA and FCCLA . This allows students to compete in state and national competitions while forming a student organization . As part of this , the students can earn membership in the international Quill and Scroll program which is like the National Honor Society , but for communications / journalism students only . A formal induction ceremony will be held next school year for eligible students .
