The FFA program has grown considerably this year and will have many more competitors in years to come . This spring , the annual Henderson County Livestock Show was held March 21-25 and Brownsboro FFA had a record number of participating students . They had great success with at least one champion ( grand or reserve ) in every division of the market livestock show ( except broilers ). They finished with a total of 7 banners .

Photo by Paisley Rumbo the ropes of entrepreneurship and are in the process of opening a school store . It is student led and this year they started off by selling pens . Next year , they plan to expand the store and have an actual storefront in the school . This class is helping them prepare for the real world and any business experiences they will have .
“ Our idea was to add opportunities for students that allow them to use their knowledge and skills learned inside the classroom and apply them outside the classroom .” Business teacher Kayla Goodson said . “ It would show students how to run a stable business , as well as giving them the experience they may need for jobs in the future .”
ROBOTICS
Robotics , taught by Amanda Hoover , Ashlyn Radke and Brianna Allen cut chicken in a BHS alum , is order to prepare for Five Buck Friday . another program included in CTE . This is her first year teaching at Brownsboro and she has made many changes already . The class has changed from lectures to hands-on learning and engaging activities .
“ I try to keep all of my classes engaged by learning through doing .” Hoover said . “ They are creating things , developing ideas , and communicating all in a very direct way . By being active with the material in my classes , they will better retain what they ' re taught .”
Next year , Brownsboro plans to compete in the Region 7 robotics competition .
DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
Mrs . Hoover has brought a brand new class to the program called Digital Communications . This class is designed to connect students with the online world and better prepare them for the future .

IN THE Kitchen

The sizzle of a frying pan , the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread , the smooth chop of a knife , the hum of a blender , the shuffle of feet as customers file into the restaurant . Here , the employees work hard to impress , as they may recognize many familiar faces in the crowd .
High school students in the district have the opportunity to partake in various levels of Culinary classes where they learn the ropes of the food industry . This March , they catered the Chandler Chamber of Commerce Banquet . This allowed the students to experience yet another level of the professional food industry .
“ We served around 200 people , which took a lot of planning and work from my advanced culinary class along with other volunteers from my other classes ,” Culinary Arts teacher , Jessica Kindley said .
The culinary arts program offers four classes that students can take from their freshman to senior Year . The program includes : Intro to Culinary , Culinary Arts , Advanced Culinary Arts , and Practicum in Culinary . Each class provides a different learning experience , each crucial to understanding the field .
“ Intro to Culinary is an introductory course that covers the basics of kitchen safety , along with learning the history of food service and about influential leaders in the industry ," she said .
They also learn several basic skills that the students can apply at home and in their daily lives . After completing this class , students have the opportunity to take Culinary Arts where they participate in a more in-depth study of food safety .

CULINARY ARTS

The final classes offered include Advanced Culinary and Practicum in Culinary . These students are tasked with running the in-school restaurant , 31-East , that serves teachers and staff every month .
“ These students do everything from plan , prep , plate , serve , host , bus tables , and wash dishes while running a profitable restaurant ,” Kindley said . “ On Fridays we serve teachers and staff and offer a to-go option at a cheaper cost .”
With the restaurant , the students are able to get hands-on experience in a professional culinary environment .
“ My favorite thing about teaching Culinary Arts is seeing students take pride in a job well done ,” Kindley said . “ My students are in charge and when they prepare a dish that looks incredible , or bake bread that rises perfectly , or bake a cake that tastes amazing , they are proud of their work and I am proud that they learned something along the way .”
