Sources of Strength will allows students to feel comfortable speaking about their mental struggles and helps extinguish any negative ties to caring for one ’ s mental wellbeing .
“ We are trying to normalize mental health support because we know people may associate it with a negative stigma ,” Gray said . “ A lot of people don ’ t understand that mental health is just as important as physical or social health , and it ’ s completely normal to need help .”
Another addition is the brand new counseling centers placed on every campus . “ It ’ s a really neat place , that is calming and comfortable for students to be in ,” Gray said .

Each center is unique with sofas , chairs , rugs , and decorations , all carefully designed to create a safe and nurturing space for students of all ages .
“ It helps them get away from that office feel , and we hope that makes kids excited or more comfortable in asking for help ,” Gray said .
All of these programs come together to make a safe and stable environment for all students in our school district . BISD wants to make every child feel comfortable and lend a helping hand when needed .
“ We want kids to know there is strength in asking for support , and that it is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed of ,” Hampton said . “ We all have struggles and sometimes we just need somebody to talk to . That is a really positive thing and we want students to know they don ’ t have to deal with anything on their own .”
