After the challenges and unknowns faced during this past year , BISD decided to once again team up with Chandler First Assembly Church in hosting the annual Back-To School Health Fair . On August 7 , the fair served over 650 students across the district with necessities for the upcoming school year . The drive was set up for visitors to walk through , grab what they need , and be assisted by helpers .
“ It was a great success ,” said Georgia Wright , the head coordinator . “ We were able to serve and pray for hundreds of families and had a great turnout of volunteers .”
Volunteers of all ages helped support the event by handing out almost 360 pairs of brand new shoes and socks along with 534 backpacks filled with supplies . Students from all different groups and organizations in BISD were able to volunteer at the drive and support their community .
“ I wanted to volunteer mainly to give back to the community and help kids become more confident and comfortable going into the new year ,” said Anna Fugate , one of the student volunteers from BHS .
The volunteers had the opportunity to impact lives and many are looking forward to participating again .
The drive not only succeeded in providing every student with a backpack and the items needed for school , but they also achieved handing out 534 haircut vouchers , 65 eye screenings , and 30 dental exams .
The whole event lasted 3 hours , and the High School ’ s gym was packed with guests the entire time .
“ This event would not be possible without the help of area churches , BISD , and our community ,” Wright said .
