Advantages of the chromebooks differentiate between students and teachers .
All students are given the opportunity to access apps such as Google Classroom , Edpuzzle , Jamboard , Padlet , Flipgrid , Google Docs , slides , Kami and more . Teachers are able to post , lecture , and grade students .
“ I am able to create a wider range of assignments while also keeping student work more readily available ,” said Kristin Britt , a BHS teacher . “ Through online integration and implementation of lessons , I can provide a wider variety of options for classroom assignments while also keeping information organized .”
Chromebooks also help students stay involved with their work when they are absent .
“ I enjoy using chromebooks because they are easily accessible and help remind me when to turn in assignments even when I ’ m out of school ,” Trista Volentine , a sophomore at BHS , said . “ We don ’ t need to worry about missing days because the chromebooks help us make up work .”
This gives students a easier way to be responsible because of the easy accessibility .
“ I post every day ’ s assignment or instruction in Google Classroom for students who are absent , didn ’ t get to finish in class , or need to reference back to a day ,” Brittany Gilley , a teacher at BHS , said . “ It helps by holding students more accountable .”
Students are able to stay caught up even if they are involved in extra activities .
“ We encourage our students to be involved in a variety of extracurricular activities so having devices for each student allows them to work on assignments while riding the bus to a game , access assignments if they are at home sick , and stay up to date on assignments from any location and at any time during the day ,” Dr . Hampton said .
Teachers are also able to make comments and remind students of work that needs to be accomplished or fixed .
“ Strong communication between teachers and students is always critical ,” Hampton said . “ Having devices for each student allows the student to quickly email the teacher with a question and allows the teachers the opportunity to communicate with students as well as provide feedback and grades on assignments in a much more efficient and timely way .”
Some students have even shown major improvement with their effort on their grades . “ We have also seen students checking their grades more often now that they have a device and staying up to date with school activities and events ,” Hampton said .
Overall , students are able to feel independent while doing more on their own , all while receiving the help of their advisors . “ The transition to a 1:1 device model across the district has had many benefits ,” Hampton said . “ Online learning allows students access to varied instructional formats and helps students to look up information easily . Students also can demonstrate their learning in a variety of formats such as collaborating with other students using a Google platform , recording a video to demonstrate learning , and using other technology tools to be creative in conveying their level of understanding and learning rather than just through paper and pencil .”
