paint, but I haven’t done that in years now. Sometimes I make rough sketches of beads or jewelry, but
nothing too elaborate. One day I hope to start painting again.”
It seems that Marica goes through a journey with
each new piece. She told me, “first it’s the idea that I
have in my head. Sometimes I hit the studio as soon
as I get the idea. Other times, I take notes or make
a rough sketch. I’m always surprised at the sheer
amount of ideas I have running through my head at
any given time. The next step is trying to overcome
any obstacles that I might have to actually make the
piece exactly as I see it in my head. I also experiment
with new techniques. It is always a thrill when you
try something new, and it works. And then finally the

myself. I often find it hard to part with my beads and
jewelry. I sometimes secretly wish that they won’t
sell just so I can keep them. Mad I know!”
“Knowing that with my wee beads or jewelry I am
making people happy warms my heart to no end. I
find it humbling and a true blessing to actually be
able to do that through my work.”
One question I was dying to know is how Marica’s
surroundings, living on the island of Malta, inspire
her? She told me, “I live on a tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean and I am surrounded with
inspiration each step that I take. I would say that the
whole island is my muse - a haven with treasures
from prehistoric and medieval times, and the most
beautiful and crystal clear waters you will ever see.”
