Middle School
Year 6 Catches a Breath
Angie Sutanto, Year 6
Marketing Officers in Year 6
In Music, the Year 6s have learned about how to
breathe through their diaphragm while singing. Mr
Mark Lai started teaching by making the Year 6s lie
down on their backs. Then he told the class to close
their eyes and breathe, which is how we breathe
when we are sleeping. We use our diaphragms
when sleeping and we surprisingly never knew
about that!
Srishti Srivastava, Year 6
The year 6s are designing their own logo on a plain
white t-shirt. Ms Kelly, Beacon Academy’s
Marketing Manager, delivered a talk on Marketing,
which was completely fun. Students even got to
design their own Beacon Academy billboard.
The way we breathe throughout the day is from our
chest which is different. We started excercises by
breathing in, expanding the stomach, and breathing
out, inflating it. Our stomachs are thought to
expand more when we lie down. Then the Year 6s
were up to tough challenges.
They must take deep breaths and let go in a very
long time. But in other ways, we also practice
taking deep breaths and letting go instantly. Jayesh
Ailani from Year 6 commented, “This is so tough, I
almost lost my breath!” Luckily, the Year 6s had
good practice using their diaphragm for their
upcoming musical, Seussical. Now we can all
perform with the right way of breathing.
Valerie Setiawan mentioned joyfully: “I can finally
understand the way we breathe when singing!”
