of vanilla , I understood why Elisabeth ’ s cookies were so delicious .
What really appeals to anyone who encounters Elisabeth and Butter online and in person is that she makes baking a fun experience for anyone of any age . Growing up it was daunting to even flip through my Mom ’ s cookbooks and try to mimic the flawless iced cakes and perfectly sculptured pie crusts , but Elisabeth breaks the process down step-by-step , leaving no tip or secret untold . I recently had the pleasure of witnessing Elisabeth in her element during a cookie painting class for a group of kids and realized how approachable she made the entire process .
Elisabeth usually arrives 10-15 minutes before her two-hour class starts . She brings all materials , including brushes , paints , workstations , and , of course , her delectable sugar cookies . Class begins with an introduction and overview which she tailors to her audience . With this particular
young group Elisabeth delves into the process more quickly , successfully keeping the attention of all in the room ( except for one , who decided eating the cookie first would be best ). After delicately outlining the edge of the cookies with a piped frosting tip , Elisabeth describes the process with which to mix and create the various paint colors . Everyone started to whip up brilliant pinks , oranges , greens and blues , ideal for the beachthemed cookies that included , amongst others , flamingos , pineapples and palm tree shapes . After the outline has dried , Elisabeth explains how to flood the interior of the cookie while staying within the lines . Tools like toothpicks and brushes are used to slather the shape and provide it with the base coating . What started out as a cluster of beige-colored pucks morphed into a multi-colored rainbow of sugar cookies . Following with super fine paint brushes , Elisabeth illustrates that light brush stokes across the dried iced cookie will produce a secondary dimension , enabling one to essentially draw on top of the
