The crystal blue waters of our Emerald Coast attract people from all over the world who are looking for a relaxing escape from their busy everyday lives . It ’ s the perfect setting to sit back , soak in the sun and enjoy the people you are with ! The ocean , however , can be dangerous and it ’ s important to keep safety first . South Walton uses a system of colored flags to communicate to locals and visitors about current surf conditions . Learn about what each flag means and keep in mind that knee deep is too deep on red flag days , and double-red indicates the water is closed for swimming .
Some other general rules to keep in mind while enjoying our beautiful beaches are to leave no items on the beach overnight ; the county will remove and donate ( or trash ) them if you do ! Also , permits are required for dogs , boats , and bonfires on the beach . And lastly , to avoid being ticketed and fined , make sure you leave your glass at home ; no littering ; no removing sand , water , or vegetation ; and stay off the dunes .
