• Welcome President’s Message Thank you to our members who responded to the Alumni Attitude Survey earlier this year. We truly appreciate your feedback, which helps us enhance our programs and increase your engagement with our alma mater and with other alums. A few of the survey highlights are featured in this issue. Based on your feedback, this issue features services and events that can assist alums with their career discoveries and pathways, other events such as Beach 2030 to broaden their perspectives, and ways that alums can show their pride and support. ■ Our Alumni Mentor program is the perfect chance to connect professional alums with ambitious students and forge mutually beneficial ties. Consider lending your experience as a mentor in Spring 2019. Help us recognize the next class of Distinguished Alumni by submitting a nomination form, found online at csulb.edu/distinguishedalumni. The deadline for 2019 nominations is November 5. ■ Support Your Alumni Association More than any dollar amount, your participation and pride are what make our organization possible. To encourage alumni giving at all levels, we’re sending our brand new Beach Alumni for Life t-shirt to alums who make a donation of $19.49 or more. Refer to the insert to learn more. Alumni are invited to join IMAGINE:Beach 2030, an online conversation about the modern innovations coming to higher education. Our alumni voice is vital to the goals, issues, and hopes for the future of education on our campus. Support student performers at Fusion November 16-17's performance of Fusion will be a meeting of The Beach’s illustrious student talents in the Department of Dance led by Dance faculty Rebecca Bryant, Rebecca Lemme, Julio Medina and Andrew Vaca, the Bob Cole conservatory Symphony conducted by Johannes Muller-Stosch and the University Choir led by Jonathon Talberg. We’d love to see you there! Thanks again for your support. GO BEACH! Robert Irwin ’67 Come watch the Women's Soccer team The coming year promises plenty of athletic excitement, and we’d like alums to support Women’s Soccer on October 21 as they face rival UCI. After the game, stop by the brand new Softball/Soccer Clubhouse at the Softball Complex, and don’t miss the stunning new basketball court design at the Walter Pyramid. Alan Knipe ’96 is an example of an alum who exudes Beach Pride as featured in this issue. As our men’s volleyball coach, he led the team to win the nail-biting 2018 NCAA Division I men’s volleyball championship. It was the first time that The Beach won it since 1991—when Alan was a player. We also look forward to more networking, educational and celebratory gatherings at the future Anna W. Ngai Alumni and Visitors Center. If you would like to be a part of this project, please contact development director Ricki McManuis at [email protected] . Be a Mentor
