1998, CREDENTIAL
Social Studies Teacher, Garden Grove Unified School District
“I had the pleasure of mentoring Elizabeth Hafeli `14, `16 (pictured on far
left) when she worked with me for a semester as a requirement for her
teaching credential. She was able to get a position in the school district ,
and I now call her a colleague. The most important reward
that I have gained is that of friendship.”
LORNA PAUGH DON SINE
1980, B.S., HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT 1976, M.A., HISTORY
Sr. Director, Human Resources, Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Professor of Graduate History, American Public University
“While finishing my MA and as President
of the History club, I had the opportunity to
mentor several undergraduate history
majors. It was a mutually positive
experience and I helped approximately 12
students improve their academic stand-
ing. I also guided two promising students
interested in the Navy who graduated from
CSULB and were accepted into the Navy’s
Officer Candidate School.”
“The CBA’s SCPD mentoring program has
allowed me to give back to the university, and
help others the same way I was helped. With
the support of CSULB instructors, I was able
to land an internship with a major Orange
County company. This was a career and life
changing experience. My mentee, Vu Nguyen,
a first generation college student like myself,
will work during winter 2017 in my Human
Resources Department.”

“It was very rewarding to see Jesus Garcia
’15, my mentee through the SCPD Corporate
Mentoring Program, get hired by Northrop
Grumman Corporation. We have continued to
get together for lunch about once a month to
follow up on how he is doing with his job. I am
very proud of what he has accomplished in
the past two years that I have known him.”

“I have mentored many young musicians in
my professional career as a violinist and
conductor, and many of them have gone on
to attend CSULB. Watching these students
mature into fine citizens and musicians fills
my heart. The greatest reward is seeing my
mentees go on to become amazing people
with integrity, character and passion.”
