GENT E CALP I joined CALP as a 4th grade teacher and English Coordinator seven years ago. This is my 6th year teaching Kindergarten at “Los Pibes”. I received my degree in Psychology from the University of San Diego and later a K12 Bilingual Teaching Credential. For more than 10 years I worked at South Bay Union School District teaching elementary school in San Diego. In these years as an English Teacher I have had the opportunity to experience the amazing ability that my 5 year old students have in acquiring a second language. Through song, dance, and making learning fun, kinder students thrive! A technique that we use daily in our classroom to help learn our alphabet is ”Total Physical Response” (TPR). We see the letter, we hear the sound and name of the letter, as well as a body movement or hand signal. This allows the student to distinguish between subtle differences in sounds, especially tricky short vowels! I am very grateful toCALP for all their support, my coworkers, and all my wonderful students, for bringing so much joy, laughter and bright smiles everyday!
